My name is Zeus of Gwanz.
I am a Giant Green Iguana baby. (Iguana iguana) This is my webpage!
I am 1 year old! My birthday is August 5. Right now, I am a couple inches over a foot long, but one day, I will be up to six feet! I get daily love and attention from my owner, and the best diet! Since I am a baby, I am not sure if I am a boy or girl, but my owner thinks I am a boy. According to all my friends, like Igger, Mozilla, Liz, Jose and Eegads, I have a interesting personality! They say that I am a little fireball, and that I will grow up to be the horror of the house! I can't wait! But, then they told me that I am a little on the snappy side....Oh well!
Igger has told me about iguanas that are not getting all the things I am. They are starving, and sick. That got me really mad! So, I am going to tell you what to and not to do when it comes to your iguana.
First of all, diet. Iguanas are not meat eaters. They should have a healthy diet of greens, vegetables, and fruits. However, lettuce is really yucky. Don't ever feed it to your iguana! Try instead my favorite thing in the whole wide world, collard greens. Also, turnip, mustard, and dandelion greens are very yummy, and very good! You can even get dandelions from outside, as long as your yard isn't sprayed for anything! These are only a couple of things...here is two tasty diet websites...Iguanaden and Melissa Kaplan's Care of Reptiles. I like those sites! Also, one of the Yahoo groups, called BabyIguana, has a picture guide! For water, us igs love to be misted as much as possible! Misters can be bought, and they are nice. Iguanas come from tropical areas! So we like to be really really humid!
Next, lighting. Iguanas need a UVB flourescent, a basking spot with the temperatures between 92-96 degrees F. (its nice and warm). The rest of the cage (not fish aquariums) should be in the 80s. At night, us igs still need heat! A cave over an undertank heater with a night heat bulb will do the trick. During the night, a nice temperature is around 75-80 degrees F. Make sure all the lamps are 8 inches away from us! Eegads told me if I am any closer, I will get burned.
Finally, bedding. Cage carpet and newspaper are the healthiest. Iguanas might find a bathroom, and that will make cleaning easier. I have a nice bathroom that my owner put newspaper over so it was super easy to clean.
I hope that I have been some help! I have to go now, it's time for my bath. Didn't I tell you? Iguanas can swim! It's healthy and offers excersise. Baby iguanas, like me, don't like the water too much, so you will excuse me, I have to run!
